Pellet food, such a Spectrum New Life, is what I've always used, with some high-quality frozen food on occasion. The pellets tend to get lost and dissolve, however larger pieces of frozen food tend to be consumed completely.

Are frozen foods have less impact to water quality than pellets, assuming they soaked/strained?

I think so. I've heard pellets create more PO4.
True some foods will raise that nasty po4 lol
A good food will raise it slightly.
I use the nutridiet marine flake twice a day and my po4 stays level but at the same time a have many macros

I might try switching minimal frozen feedings. I have an algae scrubber that just goes nuts when I feet the pellets. Not a clue how I can skim so much and grow algae in the sump with how few pellets I'm feeding!

But at the same time make sure you are giving your fish a diverse feeding.
I learned this years ago with my lion fish he died cause I did not understand fish needed a mixed diet.
I feed flake at 9 mysis at 12 then flake at 3 lights ramp down at 5

There should be no question that pellets are dirtier than frozen food. FWIW pellets, high quality such as NLS, contain significantly more nutrients than frozen food. Which is why you should feed pellets with an attention to detail. Don't just let the pellets float all over the water and land where fish can't get to it. Target feeding and feeding rings are a huge help.
