Just came across this old article but it's new to me. It talks about how some of the bags used to ship or carry fish home from the lfs leech deadly toxins into the water which results in high mortality rates.

Anybody have any updated info/studies?

I could only read the abstract of the original article. I have seen over the years that some plastic bags have a slippery/soapy feel. These are generally the thinner, non aquarium bags. I wonder of those are the ones that showed the toxicity?

Ya I wish they would have mentioned which bags tested toxic and which didn't. Especially since they said they are food safe bags that we possibly shouldn't be keeping food in. Oh well, a little poison never hurt anybody....

I know you all need another thing to worry about so BUMP

I'm not leaving my fish in the bag long enough to worry about it.
Unless your scooping them out of the ocean yourself and bringing them straight home they are spending a good amount of time in plastic bags...

I can't do anything about what bag they are transported to the store in, so I won't get all verklempt about that. The only thing I can control is how long they are in bag between the lfs and my crib.

I can honestly say out of several dozen fish purchased over 30 years i have only had a couple die within days of bringing them home(and they were freshwater). So I am definetely not concerned about this from a retail buyer perspective. If I were a wholesaler, transshipper, or LFS owner then I might get concerned about it.
