Are rainbow chalice actually grafted together from a combo of enchino with different color, orange w orange rim and green with green rim along with green eye?

I've been told by most local fish store that they are not grafted, but after doing alot of research and seeing some chalice growing out from "the original rainbow colony" only to be fully orange or green or blue/purplish, and that it doesn't morph the full "rainbow color"

I've knotice from the sales thread of reef2reef reefcentral and a few other online places hobbiest are selling them that had been frag from a rainbow colony that only grow a single color and not morhping the multi color of the original colony, which lead me to believed they are grafted.

Any input? I got a piece of my own by the original guy who had a large colony had them cut and the ones that is completely orange /red remain the same color and grew 2 inch out with no mix color in them.

Most chalices that I'm aware of aren't grafted. The term "Rainbow" means there are at least 3 different colors in the coral. Different tanks can emphasis particular colors of a rainbow but they're all pretty much the colors they grow into in the wild/aqua cultured. When frags are first added to a tank they take some time to become acclimated. I know of some that can take over a year for them to show their original colors. I usually have luck within 4 months after adding my frags for them to encrust and acclimate. There are some pretty wicked Rainbows out there. All of mine came from Joe Know Reefs. JME
