Hi - I’m new to the hobby and looking to upgrade from a fresh water aquarium to a saltwater aquarium. I’m interested in the Red Sea Max s500 unit. The all in-one and plug and play seems appealing. Hoping to get opinions on the unit and if they’d recommend the purchase… As it’s quite pricey. A concern I have is the sump seems a bit small, given everyone says go as big as you can.

Thanks,

Ron

It looks nice, but every piece of equipment they come with can be replaced with something better

I would get the RS reefer series if you can settle for a little less volume tank.

Is the main difference between the S series and the RS reefer the sump is on the back. Would that provide any disadvantages down the road.

back sump kinda hard to clean, the t5 fixture will be too much in the way down the road, sump too small .

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
