Are Red Sea test kits reliable

I got the marine care test kit it’s says a different result from api liquid test kit

The Red Sea FOUNDATION PRO kits are more accurate, but use Salifert for testing your magnesium

This is why I prefer tank pictures as the sole determinant for ammonia and nitrite.

Why is that? I am in the same shoe as the OP and can’t make my mind up of which test kit to buy.

Please can you post a pic of the actual sets of readings for both

we want to see the differences on same sample

Look up the accuracy of the Marine Care kit to the Foundation Pro kits.

What should I use for ammonia and nitrite and nitrate

Don't test for ammonia and nitrites / API may do the job

Phosphates: Hanna phos ULR PPM checker

Nitrates: Salifert or NYOS

Might just be me but I sure have a hard time telling the difference between light blue and lighter blue, etc..

Nitrates: Salifert or NYOS

I’ve tried both and don’t believe the NYOS is worth the extra money, it’s a lot more expensive for similar results, the only benefit is the NYOS has glass viles, whereas the salifert plastic.

We will use your thread/pics to help people discern reading differences on these two kits that’s very helpful to see in one place. Cycling threads that have similar test colors to yours will benefit

have you added liquid ammonia

I wouldn’t buy the Red Sea marine care kit because it’s very hard to read for me
Good point. BRS had a series of test comparisons. Red Sea never was on the button but salifert was almost always on the cheaper alternative. Hanna way too expensive to my liking

Here’s the results :)

Hanna not always came out on the top too. BRS made a good point by saying if 5 people made the test and had close results than the test must be well documented easy to read and most importantly consistent.

I agree wit the accurate results is less important view as we are looking for trends more than just numbers.

What I hate in API is that I can do the test 5 times in a row and I get 5 different results and have to use guess work to decide which was the good one.

True for ph with api it will range if I take tests from different part of tanks it’s weird I will try salifert

for those readings / context have you dosed bottled bacteria and feed/ammonia to get those results above
