Are these bad sumps?

They remind me of the Eshopps sumps. I've got an Eshopps RS-75, and it's okay. There's only enough space for the skimmer, heater, and return pump, but that's about all I need honestly. Maybe an ATO switch as well. I don't keep stony corals atm, so it's not a big deal.

its got a lot of space for bio media if doing a brackish/fresh tank but it doesnt seem salt friendly to me

They are basic, if you have a basic need of them and the price is good, go for it. Also check Simplicity sumps. Fiji sumps

I guess it depends on your version of what "salt friendly" is. I wouldn't say they're hard core "I like colored sticks and only colored sticks and would pay a kidney for them" reef friendly. But mushroom/softie/any coral that doesn't really need a lot of extra dosing all the time, it's probably friendly to them.

Very cheap looking and basic unit
