My friend bought these zoas. They guy told her they are just a cheap zoa that are a weed that nobody wants. She bought about 300 polyps for $80. To me, I think she got ripped off and they are bleached. What do you guys think?

Well if they are bleach than hopefully they get some color! If you can get a closer picture of them it might help us better! Your friend could add iodide. Dose it daily or weekly (shoot for less than the recommended dosage to avoids over dosing)

Here is a picture of the frag we're trying to rescue for her.

We are adding iodine, feeding ammino acid, giving then good light and feeding reef roids. Starting to turn a little darker they do have green mouths.

Only time will tell! They may end up being a paly vs a Zoa, bigger polyps. Time and patience. Make sure you have some nitrates in the water it will help keep them happy. I don’t like reef roids because they can raise both nitrates and phosphates. The aminos and the iodide (not iodine. Iodide is the form of iodine that corals use. They convert iodine to iodide. Less work if you have it the way they like it!)

keep us posted!

Definitely bleached. Target feeding with reefroids or similar and adding amino acids will help. I would keep them in less than 100 par right now just because bleaching=no zooxanthellae=no natural sunscreen=stressed and dead corals. Best of luck!! Hopefully you’ll have a full recovery in 4-6 months maybe even faster since you have a large quantity of them together

Thank you. They are in lower light, spot feeding amino and roads. We took a chunk of it to see if we can rescue it.

please be careful handling this coral and wear gloves and eye protection if fragging, zoa/palys can be poisonous

I wouldn’t worry about it being bleached. I’ve got some stuff super cheap that was bleached that turned out to be super high end stuff. Got a rainbow incinerator for 5$ because it was bleached out. You never know what these may turn into. May be something cool.
