Good afternoon! So, I got home from work today and noticed a million little white specs crawling around on my glass. Are these copapods & if so, how did they get in my tank? I used dry rock and live sand.

Do you have a wrasse that would enjoy eating them?
No. Not yet. I definitely think they are copas. They are soooo tiny so I can’t make out their shape. I’ve been dosing phyto the last week so I think whatever population I had in my tank exploded. That’s my guess.

Yep, if they're moving around like crawling along the glass it sounds like pods. When I first looked at the pic, I noticed the reflection (which says to me you're probably 8" away from the glass) and copepods wouldn't generally show up at that distance vs the size of a pixel, but either way...

If you want to get a really good look at them, pick up a jewelers loupe on Amazon, they're cheap, and you will get a really nice closeup view. Probably even see some more microcrustaceans that no one ever talks about :)

They are definitely NOT stationary. They scurry around like crazy. Some move more than others, but they are all definitely on the move. Some of them look like they are running. lol

Just tested my water & My Nitrates & phosphates bottomed out! I’m at 0 for both!? Looks like Dino’s showed up today too. Could the pod population have something to do with the drop in nutrients? I went from 14 nitrates and .20 phosphate.

What specific kits are you using for nitrate and phosphate?

Dinos can be a real pain, if that's what they are. Diatoms and cyano are common in new tanks. We would need good pics, or even microscope pics, to confirm.
