Cross post from one I made in the beginners forum.

Are these dinos? Or some algae?

Note that it’s brown/red in blue light and green in white. Slimy and grows in very long strands. Breaks off very easy. Does get air bubbles trapped in it. Growing in rocks and sand.

Ya I think it is hard to tell. I have seen it look that way befor.

I would get a cheap microscope and see what it looks like and try to identify it. That is what I did with my dino issue. Got a cheap 15 -20 dollar scope on amazon.

Just a quick update. I’ve been able to determine that these are dinos. I went through and sucked up a ton using my julians thing. They suck right up like it was jelly and separate if you swirl it around. Also noticed that they were collecting together in the bucket I was dumping them in and I had previusly read that Dinos do this whereas your typical algae does not.

I’ve ordered vibrant but am going to try a blackout for 3 days plus dosing 5ml of hydrogen peroxide per day before I try the vibrant. Also going to stop water changes, Scraping algae, and dosing amino acids.
I have a microscope in order so I can identify which type of dinos....anyone have any other suggestions?

I would do this insteed.https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/150-gallon-dinoflagellate-treatment-bundle-dr-tim-s-bundle.html
Viberante did not seem to rely work for me. Also try to keep nitrates up I used this.
Dinis seem to thrive better with zero other algae or bacteria competition. When you add bacteria and nitrate you are trying to force other things to over take the dinis till they die or are more mansgeable
