Are these gsp or cloves or what?

These were sold to me as green star polyp but they dont look like the typical image you see.

This is what tidal gardens calls green star polyps

This is what I have

It may be hard to see but they do not have that smooth tentacle but one that looks like a brush instead. The color is also pale green.

They look happy and healthy, the top pic was under very good lighting by someone with camera skills, what lights do you have?

I've seen gsp in many colors and different centers.. but true most are smooth "tentacles" maybe look up entrusting gorgonian. They seem to have more of that rigid edged look. But most of them are a brownish color.

I would catorgize them as gsp (generic term for couple types of corals Pachyclavularia and Briariem). To me cloves have a more fern like appearance.

Thank you, it looks like they are Briareum stechei or close enough to it to not matter. (my photo is terrible, the one I put here looks exactly like what I have) Which is apparently a gorgonian!

So the kind I want is of the Pachyclavularia genus then.

I actually love the Briareum. Had it for years until tank move. It is longer generally and not as bright a green. It truly looks like grass flowing. Also, it can spike up digits. Like fingers all over. It does grow over everything though.
I currently have Pachyclavularia and would happily change to Briareum if I could find it.

My dad has "branching gsp", in his tank...its actually the encrusting gorgonian.. and it's actually nice the way it grows fingers and branches out instead of just a flat mat... But he keeps it on a rock island in the center of his tank so it wont invade other rocks or corals.

I was just thinking the other day that my green star polyps looked kind of odd. Then today, I stumbled onto this thread, and it looks like I have the briareum too! I’m happy with it though.

Yeah i don't mind them, but I want the pachyclavularia too. Greedy, I know. Just glad I can put a name to both of them now. Hobby terms like "green star polyp" are really less than helpful if there isn't a scientific name tagged to it.

Unfortunately sometimes all we can identify is genus or family. So, come the common names. Like brain coral, favia, gorgonia, acro, etc. Just sometimes very difficult to identify genus let alone species.
