I've never owned a clam before, but I've also never seen one on its side like that. Let someone else chime in that knows better.
 
^^Agreed. The clam needs to be upright. It has a foot on the underside that needs to attach to a piece of rock. Put a flat piece of rock under it and stick it on the rock in an upright position. It should attach to the rock in a few days. I can't tell from the picture but as long as the clams mouth isn't gaping wide open it should be fine. It should close up if you move your hand over the lights to create a shadow.

Your clam is beautiful Joshua!

Here's a picture of a maxima shell. You can see its shape and orientation. Light, and the algae in its flesh, are its primary food source, so, they must sit upright and get as much direct light as possible.

One indication that they're not happy is when the shell opens wider than normal, or, when they can't close completely. This is due the the primary muscle that opens and close the shell starting to weaken.
