Haha, I was like "wait... Are they gunna burn my house down?". That sucks man, I'd be a little salty after that.

I know he always has words of wisdom about various lighting available to us.
That said, I have heard horror stories about various "off brand" lights. I have ALSO heard many success stories. To be honest, more of the latter than the former..

I use two of the Viparspectra 165w on my 75g tank and really like them. Of the black box LEDs, they are one of the highest quality. I’ve have fantastic SPS growth with them as well. I run the blues at 100% and the whites at 1%. (I also have 2 Actinic Blue T5s and ReefBrite TechStrip 50/50 LED Strip on there).

Thats really good to hear! How long have you had them? Any issues so far?

I’ve had them approx 6 mos. No issues at all. They are very bright, so if you get them start at about 30-40% brightness and slowly increase a little (5%) each week.

Well here the kicker. So after a year the warranty is expired. When you send it in for repair, the offer to replace yours with a 26HD for 200$. They are actually stronger and have a better led bulb. You can tell right away. They old units would turn off when you went over 75%. Really annoying and did not discover until after warranty. Also when the unit over heats it burns the circuit board. Yeah I want happy and really upset with support. For the price, the HDs aren’t bad units. I’ve not had one issue.

In my time here on R2r I have heard very very few probs with the no name brands. Actually less then name brands and def more powerstrips and heaters causing fire /electric shorts.
