ive done a water change today and have checked my levels.

Calcium-390/400 (may of added an extra drop there by accident)
Magnesium-1500 (to high)
Alk-8.5

I have a wall hammer, goniopora, trachy, torch and zoas in 400l tank and I’m not currently dosing anything.

Those parameters are fine , mag is maybe a little high but nothing too worry about , mag is usually 3x your calc ..

No it will just go down with water changes , what salt are you using .. does your salt mix have a high mag ??

If it doesn’t say on the box,or you can’t find it on their website , then you can always test it for calc, alk, and mag once it’s mixed but before you add too tank ..

This is what it mixes up at , found on Internet

So if you test mag with a saliferts mag test it will give a reading of 1480 .. not far off where you are really .. but it’s certainly not a problem !!

OK, so mag will just go down between water changes or is there anything I can do to drop it a little?

Did you ever dose large amounts? If not, the level is either test error (many people have incorrect readings with the Red Sea kit), or is high due to the salt mix being high. It won't noticeably decline on its own, but I also wouldn't worry about it.

Nope I’ve never dosed anything yet.
Just going through my notes from last weeks water change, my levels were
-calc 390
-alk 7.5
-mag 1400

So that’s a pretty big raise in mag from just a water change so I’m guessing possible error on my part

Or the kit. But it didn't drop. :)
