Are these rocks any good?

So when the first tank was set up I had these rocks that came from the original owner's freshwater tank. They had this nice purple color to them. When I drained the 46g bowfront I stored them in a tote with the saltwater from the tank. Now they have lost all their color and are drab and greyish looking, a few are light brownish.
I'm wondering what happened and if they and/or the water they were stored in are still viable. They don't appear to be your normal freshwater rocks but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It's better than dry rock...I would use it. But that's just me.
 
Thanks. I plan on at least putting it in the sump for filtration. It doesn't match the rock in the tank at all.
