I've been curing them for 21 days and today was the last day. Since all the coraline algae has worn off, the rocks are clean and white again. But now that I can properly see the rocks I'm starting to think that they might not be porous enough for my 34G tank (RSM C 130). What do you think?

These rocks are about 18-20 LBS and i have 3 pounds of new dry rock that i just bough from my LFS which is much more porous. So please help me! thank you.

Those will be fine. The bacteria inhabiting the pores in the rock are tiny and will have no problem.

Different rock types have different structures.

Plus, if it once already had coralline algae on it, that shows it was already used in a tank successfully.

I might be wrong, but I think that is solely on how you want to run your tank. The purpose of having porous rock is to give surface area for micro fauna and bacteria to inhabit. Having a larger surface area makes it filter out the nutrients that can be harmful to a tank in large numbers.

The short story to this, if you want to reduce what additional things you're going to have to do make sure it's porous and has a lot of surface area to it. If not, be prepared to add additional means for those bacteria to grow on or remove unwanted nutrients.

Personally, I think you're fine with what you have. It looks to be about the same amount as I have in my 32g.

All of them were covered with coraline algae, however, the tank had a green/hair algae problem so it made me wonder if this was maybe because the biological filtration was inadequate.

The GHA had nothing to do with the rock not having a bio film on its surface
