I'm assuming the white/milky stuff is sperm or eggs being dispersed? If so, seems like a pretty chaotic place to to do it (water-flow-wise). Why not down under a rock or something, where it doesn't immediately flow away?

They go to a high point with flow to ensure it gets spread around.

Aah ok, cool. But doesn't it have to come into contact with the snail below it? Or do they both just "eject" their sperm/eggs into the water and hope it meets up somewhere else?

I remember reading about in aquaculture of abalone they will grind up a male's gonad and pour it into the tank to stimulate the females to spawn.
