I noticed this today in my sump. The picture is taken with a light shown at 90 degrees. Are these stress fractures? Will my sump burst because of these?

Thanks,
Harry

Is your sump acrylic or glass? Did you bump into or is it just something you noticed? Try taking some more photos so that it is easier to see.

Stress cracks, likely. Break up and fall apart- NO. Run your fingernail across it. Likely from outside. As long as not on both sides. . . not a structural concern

Just noticed it today out of the blue. I've attached a couple more pictures, hopefully they'll be more clear. One of the pics is from the edge of the acrylic sheet with the "cracks" which makes it look like these cracks are within the acrylic and not just on the surface.

They look more like scuffs to me. or maybe they're small cracks. I wouldnt be super concerned unless they were all the way to the bonded seam

I wouldn't worry. Acrylic tanks are easy to scratch, but near impossible to break if built correctly. Acrylic aquariums aren't just glued together like glass & silicone, all of the sides are chemically bonded to literally form one solid piece. Those marks are probably just scratches.

It's on the bottom of the sump so I can only run my fingernail across the inside and I couldn't feel anything. Based on the edge picture I posted on one of the replies it looks like these are about 1/16” into the 1/4” acrylic starting from the outside bottom. Would it be wise to glue a piece of acrylic on top of these cracks from the inside? Or could exposing this to solvents make things worse?

Thanks,
Harry

I understand, you want to reinforce it. You can BUT do it with sump empty especially with use of solvent. I personally would disregard it. It appears cosmetic, and my sump is 140 gallons and has a few and of NO concern to me

On bottom, I would wait a bit. May just be moisture under it. Either way, wouldn’t be concerned
