Got me 10 banded trochus snails the other day to help with the ugly stage" and within 10 minutes I must have flipped these over 100 times! I got these because said can right themselves not like turbo snails" The odd time they will flip themselves but not often!
I started by putting on rocks but all but 2 have managed to stay on rock without falling onto sand upside down! and few on side just keep flipping up when put back over!

how will these help my tank when looks like these have bean on the special brew all night :)

You may want to check your water parameters. Sometimes an issue with the water can cause them to not grip on to anything and fall over. Also how did you acclimate? The change in water salinity and temperature can cause this to happen.

I acclimated them over 20-30minutes by putting little my water into tub with snails in" the shop is only 5 minutes from house so temp did not drop"
my salinity is 34.5ppt on apex
temp 78.8
ph 8.14
no3 nitrate is 2-3ppm
phosphate is 0.03 on hanna ultra low

the few on rock I tried to move and was well stuck solid" and 1 on front glass seems ok

just guys on sand "

think its because the brown dusting over sand im thinking is diatoms making them flip?

My first batch I tried only lasted a couple weeks and slowly died just like how yours are acting. I thought it was something with being a new tank and all so I skipped them for awhile and now tanks going on 3 months I’m going to try them again.

Might be something wrong with your water or something wrong with the snails.

FME, banded trochus rarely, if ever, need assistance being flipped back up.
what is your Mg? When mag hits a certain level its makes certain inverts lethargic, very lethargic
my mag is 1285 ppm its never gone over 1300

my tanks bean running 5-6month know but only just started ugly stage the last 3-4weeks

ok thats good. Mg like 1550+ can be a prob. you good. All the other parameters seem ok too. maybe you just got a bad bunch. Or may they are like the title says they are dumb. I forget which snail won't flip themselves back over.

If you bought 10 and 2 are acting strange, you may want to chalk it up to a couple bad snails. I bought six 4 months ago, 1 died, and the others are still doing very well. And my tank was very new.

I Had a icp test come back few weeks ago and aluminium was little high if that would kill them? iv had a filter bag from 2little fishies in there to remove all aluminium

I did lose 2 conch few weeks ago as used to see all time but not saw for 2-3 weeks and gone through sand looking"

got sand sifting star that's doing good though

your probably right mate" don't mind the odd one being little dumb if the others do business !

may wont few more though for 180gal and the amount of diatoms I get on sand and rock

Astrea.

Are cerith snails better than trochus snails for eating diatoms

I wonder if that is the problem I have with Emerald Crabs. My shrimp and snails are fine, but my Emerald crabs do nothing all day. I haven't tested for mag though.

Test Mag let us know.
Is there a good mag test you recommend? I have hanna checkers for calcium, phosphate, nitrites, and alk as well as API test kits and some test strips but I don't think any of them measure Mag, which kind of made me think it wasn't overly important. I got the hanna checkers after realizing that the API test kit and test strips weren't very accurate for me.
