Are they crazy or crazy smart?

I don't think it's crazy. I have noticed after fragging that most zoas and palys have a growth spurt. I just got a 2 polyp frag that was fragged about 2 weeks ago and it's now 4 polyps

somebody that has a decent size colony of something should do an experiment - follow the directions and hack up half of the colony, then see which half grows quickest. That would definitively prove the process's growth capabilities.

This sucks. I was going to do this on a Propagation Spotlight. I thought of the idea after seeing my shrimp eat half a paly one night only to have it seal up and heal back within a week. I figure, if a paly can seal itself in one night I'm sure that if you cut it in half it would seal into two by the end of the week.

I just fragged my ppe's from 14 polyps to 3 frags of 4-5 polyps. IMO it forces them to have a growth spurt. I have no intention of selling them I just want a lot of them!

There is one obvious reason for increased growth after fragging - less cramped space. It seems to me that a polyp in the center of a frag will have difficulty producing another polyp, where a polyp on the outside of a frag will not, so therefore if you frag a small colony you essentially increase the "surface area" allowing for more spread. This logic seems correct to me.

I wish I had some PPE's to play with =(

I got 10 polyps on ebay a little over a month ago. I just counted 17 polyps now. I took the fragged original 10 and seperated them into 3 frags. They all almost doubled in size since. Just 5 weeks! So either there is something to the whole seperation thing or my growth is normal and alot of people are lieng about how fast PPE'S grow.

I get about 2-3 polyps/month on my PPE's... but I did have a frag of 4 polyps go to about 14 in a little over a 2 months... I was very impressed with that strain... :)

I knwo for a fact that is I have a frag or colony of soemthing that is kind of at a stand still...and I frag it...it has a growth spurt. I justr noticed it the other day with a colony of Micros!

Alright people! Lets start cutting!

I'm sure we all would be happy to see some of these nice morphs become more readily availble....

Speaking of - There is another interesting RC thread that talks about accelerating growth in "Mucho's Sweet Spot"
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1067486

Basically he has some zoos up very close to the surface right near an overflow, and he said he has gotten "amasing" growth in that particular spot. Maybe I will make a tray to sit by my overflow to test this out.

I guess protiens in the water accumulate at the surface, so the water near the surface is high in nutrients, gets the strongest light, and gets good movement being by the overflow.

Anybody else want to study this with me?

Man CZ, that took awhile to read. It would seem at best cutting is a stimulant for new growth. That above thread ran 10 months! WOW!

OK what we need to do

Since this is the authority on zoa site LOL we should have some good info on such subjects, I want to be on other sites and see link to here! How about every one else?

But this is not new news IMO, I guess it is something that just hasen't been conversed about I guess. It is a simple as scratching th e edge of GSPs to encourage growth in that direction, or simaler propogation techniques like like intense light on a Shroom colony for however long it looks like it can take at then putting it in no or low light with low flow! The shroom think somethin bad is happening and want the Genes to be in the world and start popin babies left and right or "bailing out" off the rock so you can cut them?

Anybody else want to study this with me?

I do on a regular bases but don't have the book keeping skilzz like I should if anyone want to keep track on a weekly basis LMK you can take pics and document what is going on! I just do not record?
