Amethyst is generally insoluable but impurities in the rock may not be. Since it is silicon dioxide it might leech a bit.
That said, chances are the same is probably true of any rock.
If on the other hand there are other stones you’re considering they may have risks and if anyone has done anything like putting polish, varnish, or color on them they might be a problem.
