Are tree sponges toxic to humans?

I stupidly decided to remove my dying red tree sponge with my bare hands and they are squishy so I squished it in my bare hands before throwing it away. It’s a Amphimedon compressa I think a red tree sponge. I’m not finding any info on toxicity. And only after did I realIze/think I really shouldn’t have done that. And anxiety is not my friend when it comes to things like this. Does anyone know the toxicity of it? Does it cause delayed adverse reactions? I’m actually not 100% sure if the species is right either.

call poison control if this is an emergency or a reaction is happening or an adverse reaction and they can tell you. if your having any breathing problems from allergic reactions or swelling or hives you or your family should call 911 and seek emergency care immediately.


However, i did look this up and there's nothing that can hurt you that i can see on the internet. but i only looked it up on the internet. hope that eases your mind!

Bioactivity of amphitoxin, the major constituent of the Jamaican sponge Amphimedon compressa

Abstract
Fractionation of the MeOH/CH2Cl2 extract of the sponge Amphimedon compressa afforded the secondary metabolite amphitoxin (1), the structure of which was elucidated by interpretation of 1H- and 13C-NMR data. The crude extract and the fractions containing the metabolite 1 were assessed for ichthyotoxic and insecticidal activity towards Xiphophorus variatus (moon fish) and Cylas formicarius elegantulus (sweet potato weevil), respectively. In addition, the ability of 1 to cause mortality (toxicity and lethal effect) in the rodent Rattus norvegicus (Norway rat) was examined. Moderate insecticidal activity was observed, while the toxicity towards the moon fish was evidenced by the high mortality rates for all the fractions tested. In contrast, the rodent was not affected by the met abolite.
