Can't seem to get cheato to grow in the reactor.

I am running NOPOX but I have hair algae that grows like crazy.

All my lights are off on my tank due to the algae problem, I'd like to get the tank algae problem under control before I turn the regular lights back on. Any thoughts?

What are the nitrate and phos at? Do you dose anything like iron supplements?

Have you ever tried fluconazole?

Nitrate have been test and never exceeded 10. Phosphate is usually too late.

why the anti fungal? It’s definitely hair algae.

So fluconazole has some way of killing derbesia hair algae and bryopsis in about 2 weeks time. It works eally well on those and has no issues with reefs.


Another thing I'll add is I had issues with chaetl not growing or getting hair algae on it till I started dosing chaetogro. Others had similar results when dosing iron.

I bought a triton test to check the iron and manganese or molybendum(sp?) levels. Whichever they say you should dose.

Too much iron should make more algae.

Too much iron should make more algae.

Iron is not going to cause more hair algae. It should however, aid your chaeto in being able to live and not have hair algae coat it.
