If you had the option to buy original armageddons for $100 per polyp. Would you? I finally found someone that has them, but I dunno about spending that much on a single polyp. anyone know the going rate of them? I know there are very few people with these and that they like to melt, but I'd like to add them to my collection. I just don't want to get ripped off.

you can pm me if you don't want to post it on here!

I personally couldn't swallow $100pp, but I have spent $40-50pp before. However, if zoas grow well in your tank, you could take it in thought as an investment. I did this with AOGs when they first came out, and propagated them so much, I made enough to buy a new large tank. :)

Armageddons used to be pretty popular and readily available a few years back, so I was surprised to see that they were rare again.

Dam if you don't want to spend 100.00 then send the info this way and I will pick it up:) But to answer your question sometimes you have to spend money for the things you want.

no pics yet. just found out he had them. I'm going to find out how many and everything as soon as I can but with school and work it may be a couple days.

why do you guys want them if they are going to melt? And why charge/spend that much? Just to say you had them? Thats a pretty price to pay for attention

I'll tell you what; if you can't afford to buy a few polyps, then don't bother. Armageddons are already fraught with problems and you're facing a challenge to keep them alive long-term. Getting a single polyp frag is only going to increase the chances that this frag will melt and you'll have wasted your money. $100/polyp is definitely top range, mainly because they are such notorious melters. Usually $50/polyp is about the cheapest you'll see them for sale at. If they didn't melt at the drop of a hat, given their rarity in the hobby they would probably command a higher price. Catch 22 though, cause if they didn't melt they wouldn't be so rare. I've tried them twice now and both frags have eventually melted. The first melted within a week or so, and the second was growing and thriving for almost six months and then suddenly closed up and melted. I guess that also doesn't count the time I got a frag several years ago when I first got into zoas/palys and had that one for a few months. Never grew and then shrunk up and disappeared. Also, every person I've known to have them, including the people I got mine from, have lost theirs eventually as well. I'll try them again though if I can find them, 'cause I love 'em.

I've actually made the determination that if I can get my hands on a few polyps to start over, I will be dedicating an entire tank, like a BC29 or something, just to them. It will have no other corals in it. My goal will be to get frags/colonies into every tank I have, and then let them take over the one tank and have an Armageddon garden!

It's hobby and as long as you like it..it's priceless
Like compare lexus to toyota ?????? Some like lexus some like toyota.....
If you can afford ,you will buy lexus if not go to toyota....very simple rule of life !!!!

Lexus is owned by Toyota. I love my Bimmer.

On the subject of the polyps, I'd want to know what his history with THESE polyps is, and I'd want the frag to be healed for at least 3-4 weeks and be showing signs of growth. Having a budding baby would be my sure sign to buy it. I've spent $100 on a polyp before that grew and then melted. They were sure nice while they lasted. I just spent $50 on a polyp that melted on me before and is known to melt and I'm hoping this one grows into a colony and survives long term. They sure are nice.

I look at it like this.. I buy some stuff and I sell some stuff. If I sell $100 worth of corals and spend that $100 on a polyp that might melt, then it's like I traded for it. If it melts, it was fun to try.

Persnally I could not swallow the price for those...... I think that they are very nice to look at, but 100 pp, to rich for me. Wait a while and if you still want them try and work a deal if you can. Personally though, I cant spend 100pp........ guess thats why my tank doesnt have a lot of corals.....

There is no zoa out there worth even $50 per polyp let alone $100. Just my opinion and I don't even think it is a wise investment choice because there are too many risks and at most you would get $30 per polyp in return.

here is how I look at it, True Armageddons are notorious melters but they are a spectacular looking paly! If you have deep pockets than I say say go for it, otherwise if your like the rest of us on here than $100 is a lot of money to spend for 1 polyp.

If you can get them to grow and not melt than it's a great investment, otherwise it is a high risk/high reward venture

ask yourself this..Do you have a $100 to blow and perhaps get no return on it?

I couldn't have said it better. Zack and I had successful thriving colonies for several months, and we both ended up losing the colonies. I would not pay $100 for these... assuming they are the real deal. There are a lot of fake Armageddons out there. If you do plan on buying it, post a photo in this thread before you buy so we can confirm that they are legit.

probably would not spend $100 on a lone polyp of these ones just because of their track record. if I was to try them again, I will get at least 3 polyps that have been fragged for a few weeks. I find contentment knowing I had these at one point.

I'd agree with you there. Get some confirmation with the group before moving forward with the purchase.

Haven't been around long have you? Lessons learned the hard way, I wouldn't spend that much on a known melter, and I wouldn't purchase a single polyp frag of it. I also would want to see what kind of luck the seller has had, and how healthy the frag is and how long ago it was fragged.

If it's a healthy polyp, I would serioiusly consider it. It's one of the brightest and nicest looking paly I've had. If anything, you can sell some frags to pay for the 1 polyp.

If you go forward with it, you could also ask him to frag it and let it sit for a bit, maybe even let it start to encrust before he ships it. This way you are getting a healthy frag, instead of something that was just cut the day before.

That's a nice thought, and often a justification for buying expensive corals, but in the case of Armageddons, you really can't count on that. You've got a less than 50/50 chance of growing out that single polyp to the point of being able to frag it and sell some and still keep the rest of yours alive for yourself. If you were able to grow them out and get yourself a backup and then sell some, then sure, they would hold some resale value for sure, but that's a bit of an if.
