Armegeddons GONE

I gave away 5 frags, 3 the day after I got mine. All of those melted. I cut about 7 more frags to keep, just not keep together on the same rock since I've had armes before and know how fast the colony can melt. . Out of at least 40 polyps, or 7 frags, I saved 4 polyps. Currently, they seem to be doing great, and looking healthy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for now. It was the only frag I dipped in concentrated amino acids. I swirled them in a small bowl of tank water and a capful of aminos for about 10 minutes. for the rest of the frags, I dipped one frag in furan 2, one frag in tech d, lugols, tmccp, and then comboed the other 2. they all still melted. I think its a seasonal
thing with armes. If I remember, 2 years ago mine melted in oct or november.

I still have a couple in my tank. I fragged a couple for Jeremy (who dah) when he came by a couple months back. I wonder if he still has his :(

Maybe its a temperature thing? Once the Fall/winter comes my tank temp does seem to drop during the night time more than it would during the spring or summer....

Maybe yall tanks are to clean and they like dirty water...

In my 30 the trates were 0 and they did well under the halides

But in my 14 gal where they seem to be growing faster under PC lights and tratea are never below 20, but never higher than 40. ... But im gettin those back down to 0 so Ill see how they respond. Calcium is high in that tank, with an 8.2 PH, 9dKH...

And in my 5.5 gal trates are 0 and under T5s and theyre looking well in there for now. Look the best in that tank actually

jonbar--- sorry off topic guys just quick question. in your last pic. what are the ones toward the top on a disc that look kinda like light green with a dark center. do they have a name?

Not to jump in... but they are PPRPE's (Propagator Purple Ring People Eaters)

Sorry to hear about your Armageddons. We have had our colony for about 4 years. Started as 2 polyps, grew out to over 700-800 polyps. Fragged down to like nothing and grew back. Never had a problem with melting though (knock on wood)!!!

Rev - If you have any remaining polyps of the Arm's, try this is has worked for me...
Put the frag in you sump (if it dont have a light) or any where else that the coral can not receive any light. Leave it there for about a week. Every other day dip it in 80 percent of your tank water and 20 percent of Hydrogen Peroxide. When dipping it leave it in the Peroxide and Saltwater for about 5 minutes then put it back in the dark. Then after you have done that for a week then dip it in Duramycin Antibiotics. I get the Duramycin from Tractor Supply, its a broad spectrum antibiotics used for livestock. I always use the liquid injectible type. I use 1 CC to every cup of salwater and dip for about 4-5 minutes. After dipping it of course make sure to dip the coral into some tank water before placing into your tank/sump.
For me this has cured the melting process and also white death fungus. Of course its not 100 percent successful but I have found it to work about 80 percent of the time.
Hope this helps. I think we need to start a thread on reef survival secrets!!!

Yup, PPRPEs...thank God they all survived!!! They're about all I'm gonna have to barter for some more Armageddons.

BTW, I ran/run a very clean system in an effort to control Caulerpa growth and the Arms were one of the fastest growing palys I've ever had. Sadly, it looks like everyone I sent frags out to lost theirs in typical fashion.
