do they like less light, somewhere in a shaded spot... just got them about two days ago... I had them in the front of my tank on the sand... two polyps opened up and the other three melted away, and now the other 2 won't open.. I put them in the shade to see if that helps... let me know if you have any info that would help.... thanks Ryan

yeah, some what good.. I just didn't know if I just put them that they would need to get use to the MH..

so you think that I should move these bad boys up?

There is a big difference in what an established zoanthid conly/frag likes vs what a newly introduced frag can put up with.

Here is what I do with newly introduced frags:
Take the tips given above to determine the right type of light and flow it does best in. Reduce the light suggestion but try and maintain the same flow amount. Place your frag in that location and leave it alone. Try to leave it there without moving for at least 1 or 2 weeks as it adjusts to your tank conditions and light.

It's tough getting a frag and watching it do poorly. Good luck Ryno and I hope they bounce right back for you.

I forgot to mention that the safest bet is to place your zoa on the sand bed, not under direct light, with medium flow.

thanks guys for the info... I'll let you know what happens

I Keep mine directly under my 175 MH (the more the lighting, the better the coloration)

they like medium to medium-high flow (Enough for them to move around without closing up.

Oh, love brine soaked in reef chili and selcon

Cheers

mine-colony are under 400w 20k xm magnetic ballast about 1/2 inch under the water surface. They have gotten more pinkish being up that high. good luck!

I have a 6-54w TEK T5 fixture on my tank. My AoG zoas have to be shaded, and shaded a LOT! I had them on the side of my tank with just eggcrate, and the skirts turned almost transparent. The other side of my tank is covered with eggcrate and guterguard over that, the skirts are still a light grey color. I've recently put them under more shade, and they are finally getting back the green stripes on the skirts.

My frag obviously differs from everyone elses. Here are a few pics

Day i got them

Impur, those are not what most consider to be AOG. I have some similar to yours and they lightened up under my T5s similar to how yours did. My AOG on the otherhand just get more and more color under bright lighting. They lightened up in the skirts as well but the center is more colorful than ever.

Here are mine that I believe are similar to yours.
