Arsenic .048

My icp test came back with .048 ppm of arsenic. I am not sure of the impact it has.. but in general dont believe it is good.

I keep a small media sock of carbon and dose the ati essentials pro. I dont think these contribute or remove the arsenic.

I have ordered gfo and a media reactor and have ordered new filters/ membrane for my ro setup.

Is there anything else i should do?

The GFO should be enough to pull it out, though I can't say if those levels are harmful or benign. Perhaps someone on the #reefsquad will know?

I live in a rural area and have our well tested periodically. Just seeing arsenic listed on the report makes you take notice. Here's what the EPA says:

"The U.S. EPA established the current maximum contaminant level (MCL) for arsenic, 10 micrograms per liter (or parts per billion). The EPA does not regulate private water wells, but its drinking water rules provide a good standard by which to measure your water quality."

Which ICP test do you have this result from? Contact them - it does not seems likely with 480 microgrames per liter.

My question is where is it coming from? Open ocean is 0.5 to 3 ppb.....and you have 48 ppb.

I'd take a water sample to a local lab and have them confirm that arsenic level. They can usually do it pretty inexpensively.

I will send do a test with ATI then. The test I did previously was with ICP-ANALYSIS.COM

Iodine was way low, Arsenic high.. Everything else normal.

My results from icp-analysis match yours almost to a T. High arsenic (0.051 ppm), low iodine (0.01 ppm).

The I might be accurate, but I have my doubts about the As.

I sent out another test batch to ATI to compare as well.

I will send out for a new test soon. I have been running a small amount of gfo.. for a few weeks. It should have some affect by now.

I think the arsenic value is likely error. I do not have confidence in this company.

So I just got a test back and also have arsenic of 0.003 ppm high on iodine like 0.44ppm
How bad is it and if I like have my entire arm in my 225 gallon tank for siphoning is that going to hurt me in the long run ?
I did a water change and running carbon now and I will do another water change tomorrow then test it again and send it in
Any ideas on that from anybody like how hurtful is it to humans thru skin and what can I do ?

That arsenic is fine and very near normal levels of 0.002 ppm.

I'd stop dosing any iodine (if you have been), but if it is from feeding a lot of macroalgae, it is likely fine.
