Art’s Acros

Umm WOW! You for sure are among the top 1% of sps keeps. Not everyone can keep acropora at this level. Please come help me with my sps color lol. No seriously. Keep up the great work.

Hi @acesq
Wonderful tank.
Could you explain a little more in detail how you connected the Dastaco reactor to the Alkatronic?
What does the Alkatronic do with the reactor exactly?

@Janci I don't have my DaStaCo controlled by the Alkatronic. I decided against it because the way it works would be to have the Alkatronic turn on and off the power to the DaStaCo controller using the bluetooth socket that comes with the Alkatronic. I wasn't certain how effective that would be so didn't try. I find that the DaStaCo does such a good job of keeping the alk stable, that I have very little need to adjust it unless I experience a big change in the tank that causes less or more alk consumption. That's where the Alkaronic comes into play by alerting me to the change. When the tank is stable, the Alkatronic reports a consistent pattern of Alk level throughout the day (the daily range is currently 8.43-8.62). I guess I could reduce that fluxuation some by controlling the DaStaCo, but I'm not convinced its necessary. My SPS have excellent color and growth so I don't think they are unhappy with the current swings.

That said, DaStaCo is coming out with their own Alk monitor that reports to the controller and controls the peri pump. I'll be interested to see how well that works.

Thank you @acesq
AMS is indeed working on the their own controller for the Dastaco but nobody knows when that will come out.
As this will also need a new controller bar (with some extra connection/socket) I am just looking out for other options.
I found people who use the bluetooth socket from the Alkatronic to switch on/off the calcium reactor when alkalinity is getting to high.

But of course, monitoring is the first idea and, like you do, having the option in hand to interfere or not is always best kept for your own judgement.
Thanks again.

Took some pics today since the tank has been doing well.

Great photos and colours.
The tank is on the way for a good rebound.
