Article: Bacterial Counts in Reef Aquarium .....

Neat article. Its still hard to say what exactly caused the decrease in bacteria. Whether lack of nutrients play a role, or direct skimming of bacteria. I find it hard to believe that free floating bacteria play a major role in our tiny ecosystems. Most of the major organic consuming bacteria live on and in our rocks. So, with that said i personally believe the more biodiversity of bacteria on and in the rock is more crucial than that of in the water column which is what this study was referring to. Just my opinion. Interesting to hear what others think.

I really like that

They asked some questions about old tank syndrome (which we've beaten/delineated/put back into reefers command see Paul's OT/myth thread here)

I like how they talked about bac in suspension... Also puts an end to the age old reefer question as to whether or not we'll find nitrifying bacteria in suspension... Yes in every reef tank though they show numbers vary

They may not have stated nitrifiers specifically but they're complexed to heterotrophic bacterial mats and suspended floc just the same... inseparable in anyone's tank.

While not critical for filtration it at least shows that transferring water among tanks is a fine seed source for nitrifiers

After a lot research...and here in reef 2 reef the people said that this is bacterial grow after cicling my tank and add from aquaforest probiotic salt and carbon source " np pro - bio s pro ".... lm really frustrating and upset...i can't removed...its a low nutrient system from the day 1, 100% aquaforest products...alk 7.8, cal 430 and mag 1350
No3 undetectable and po4 0.4....some ideas pleaseeee!!!!!

One thing that stood out to me the first time i read this paper, some time ago, was the apparent relationship between water column bacteria levels & sandbeds.

In Table 1. Sanjay has 3 tanks that don't use skimming, GAC or GFO & rarely get water changes. The only difference between the 3 is one has a sandbed, & the bacteria/ml is much lower on that tank.

To me this appears to be hair algae that has bleached out and died due to low po4. How old is your tank?? Doesn't look like bacteria to me. If you have a newer system it will take time for your system to settle out. If your parameters are fine then I would add more CUC. You could also remove the rock and give them a scrub with some Hydrogen peroxide. If you do then make sure you give the rock a good rinse afterwards. [emoji4] :)

If you have more Aquaforest specific questions you can get them answered here at this thread.

Ohhhh i got it...thanks so much...yeah im ready with that too....the tank its now about 6 month...its wear this " thing " because i start runing component 1,2,3 by aquaforest " bailling method" and work pretty good ,but this algae or bacterial grow fast again...and stop dosing and change for regular alk,cal dose trough dosing pump.. hey guys this is really frustrating .... in the base of this algae is like a brown mocus...nothing happens when you try remove manually
