Artifical Rock Info Needed:

So I bought a Fish Only set up from someone and the rock seems like it is dead (it does not stink when dry).

There is a set of barnacles that were described to me as fake. So some of the coral-like rock may also be fake too but it is hard to tell. Any advice on how to differentiate the real from the fake? Does it matter?

Some of the rock appears to be made from molds (I could be wrong) and is very heavy. I guess Coraline will grow on it or would you recommend that this rock be dumped?

I want to seed the tank with Live Rock and Purple up. Is there a way to keep the coraline from growing on the Artificial Rock?

The only issues that I know of with fake rock is that some will leach contaminants in the water and most don't have the porosity needed for good biological filtration. It sounds like yours is pretty dense, which would mean that it is not very porous.
