Some people will look down on the fake corals. I myself, dont care much for them- but that's because I have the real thing and that's just what I prefer. Now, I have seen plenty of fake corals that look great and it's very possible to make a beautiful tank with them. It would be ideal to use them with non reef-safe fish. I can't think of any problems they might cause you, besides needing to be cleaned of algae regularly.
In a recent talk I went to with Bob Fenner, he did actually say for FOWLER tanks its actually a good thing for fish stress and ultimately fish health as the two are closely linked Im learning.. An environmental stimulus.
