Hey guys. I've had my 43 gallon tank up for like 6 or 7 years now. My house is getting asbestos removed from the ceiling and ducts in about a month.

I wanted to see if anyone on this forum has any experience with this or suggestions? The asbestos removal people said I have to take everything out of the house. I'm wondering if i can just cover up my aquarium? Do I have to drain it and move it as well? Im asking here because the asbestos guy sounded unsure.

Thanks!

The hazard from asbestos for humans is inhaling the airborne fibers. Not sure about fish. I don't think chemically there is an issue.
1. Run a fine mesh filter sock to remove any particulates that get into the water.
2. Try to establish a positive pressure around the tank by sealing with plastic and pumping air from outside into the tanks 'bubble'.

I'm sure the removers just want access to the room without anything in the way. A glass fish tank would seem to be a potential disaster if someone dropped a tool.
IMO ( I dealt with asbestos and other insulation hazards for 45 years) Pistondog's advice is spot on.
The process of removing asbestos can be pretty messy, and you never know how careless some workers can be.

I've replaced tanks a few times, and found you can use temp tanks and other containers to store fish and corals for a few days. Something as simple as a plastic kiddy swimming pool. As long as it has heat and water circulation.

Your tank will be fine. I have a license (expired) for removing asbestos. To make the stuff "safe" for Humans around it you wet it. Preferably with soapy water which is what they will do in your house to remove it. When wet it won't hurt you because it can't "float" into your lungs where it will cause harm.
I am filled with the stuff. :(
Fish don't have lungs so they will be fine........Unless of course you keep lungfish.
