ASD 3 Day Shipping Delay

I just wrote them as my recent losses have been horrible after a long history of getting decent stock from them….but my issue is not with just the delays but leaking bags and friggin heat packs, yes “Heat Packs” in June. The bags are simply too hot. I’m in the south

I'm in the they got too big for the britches category. I also used to get great stuff from them, last frag order was meh (way small and fresh cuts).

They got back to me and they offered to either replace 50% of the affected corals or give me that amount as credit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Based on that it seems I am supposed to eat the loss.

So - if they want to do that - I might suggest that they give you ask for 50 percent replacement on all of the affected corals - including the ones your nursed back to health. However, they may not agree. Is there any posting, etc on their website that says they are not responsible for shipping issues? PPS - this might be best for the vendor forum. PS. IMHO - they should replace all of your losses (I wasn't defending their offer to you)

I just got notice that my ASD package was delayed until Monday due to a shipping delay. Is there any hope that the corals will survive?

Aside from dealing with DOA for ASD, if they survive how should I acclimate them? I unfortunately dont have a qt or holding tank, just a display.

It's sad that a lot of people have been getting delays with ASD recently.

I had hammers and torches delayed a day and had some DOAs, while some recovered. I dont see you having much success with a longer delay.

That's nothing new ya know, ordering coral, the onus has always been on the customer not the store. Once that order is passed off to UPS, it's out of AquaSD's hands and liability.

This thread is madness that folks honestly DON'T read the fine print. Don't like it, give your local LFS a chance or don't order online, across states.

With how infrequent this probably is, I’d think ASD can afford to cover some losses here and there.

Look at the number of people reading this and probably avoiding them in the future?

Yeah all the flesh was completely rotted off all of them, picking up the LPS the skin just peeled off. I get jitters just thinking about it

I’ve got at least 5 bags of brown goo from them my last two orders, someone there needs a geography lesson: it’s summer north of the equator and pretty dang hot south of the Ohio river …yes those are heat packs pictured with that bag of goo

I've spent well into the 4-figure range with them. $hame for them to lose a customer over $hipping fees and poor customer service. Plenty of other quality vendors here to use.

WELL OVER 4 figures….well over …I need an Fl/Orlando /east coast supplier with a similar business model/prices …any suggestions ?

Unacceptable. They are a business that can absorb a loss much better than a customer. I’d let them know that this is being reflected here on this forum for all to see.

You gave them the asked for $$$ and you received crap. If they can’t keep their doors open while making you whole, time to close up shop.

So tired of seeing these companies get promoted all up and down this forum while giving us the shaft. Come on reef2reef. Step in.

First. I disagree with the comment that 'they are a business that can absorb a loss much better than a custome'. The customer might be a millionaire, and the company not doing as well. (Note - im not commenting on this company - just the general comment you made).

Second. It all depends on their policies, and how they are posted. It is fairly widely known that shipping living things is not covered by UPS/FedEX. I would say it's pretty standard for companies to replace (at least some) items that have a shipping issue (and If I was a shipper, I would have insurance to cover it) - but here is another option: https://shipyouraquatics.com/insurance. - For the buyer

This is not an 'infrequent problem', especially delays with storms, etc that are under no ones control. Additionally, there are also customers who make claims for items that have arrived alive. I wouldn't avoid this company for what I've read here - BUT - I would make sure of their policies before deciding to order from them

The shipper has to be the one to file a claim.

Neither UPS nor FedEX offer insurance for live animals.

But how far does that go, you cover one order, you end up covering them all, that ain't how businesses make money. Again sucks that people lost their stuff, but shipping coral is what it is. Also it's now summer, I wouldn't be shipping anything without accepting the additional risk of high temps...

Again, when companies stop allowing shipping when certain conditions exist, people will gripe about that as well. Either have to accept the risks or possibly get nothing in the mail.

You're right, I don't like it, so I will change where I do business. Also I completely disagree with your first statement and am pretty sure it is factually incorrect. There have been long, exhaustive threads on that topic. It may be "out of their hands", but that doesn't mean they shouldn't correct the issue.

The freshwater person I get fish from will not ship if (along the shipment route) - the temperatures are outside a certain range (or if there are severe storms predicted along the route that could delay shipping). There are many other companies which ship expensive items (auctions, etc) that ship only M-Th.

And I totally get your point. They didn’t chain the plane to the ground.

That doesn’t change what happened with my order. Water leaking out of bags, ignoring my ship dates, and failing to pack for the temperatures. I actually emailed them the projected temp and I know they read it because they responded to it. It also does excuse shipping fresh glued frags that fell off the plugs and got damaged in shipping.

If they had shipped my orders packaged well I would feel differently. I also lost an entire order that should still be in the frag tanks. The least that could have done was refund the one shipping box when I requested it since their policy is to combine shipping on orders that go out in the same box but they didn’t even offer when I mentioned the second shipping charge.

Update:

Unfortunately, all the corals died in the mail. The water was brown, and though the lobo looks ok-ish in the picture, all the flesh sloughed off when i took it out. Some pictures are attached.

AquaSD tried to upgrade me to Saturday delivery, props to them, but UPS decided to put it on a truck in 98° weather all weekend. Nice

I try not to buy corals on line during the summer (or winter if you have 90F winters where you are at?)

Coral can handle cool water for a lot longer than warm. Sorry for the OP's situation. Just wanted to post this for folks to think about when ordering on line for summer shipments, (and winter if you get below freezing.)

Can you do everyone a favor (seriously) - and post the name of the company that would refund shipping costs in this type of case? In other words, a company that would replace your items and pay for return shipping in a situation where the problems were due to shipping delays due to weather? In other words - just wondering where you are planning to do business? I checked a couple major sites - and neither covered return shipping costs (for replaced items) - and had multiple restrictions as to what they will reimburse (or not)?

SO, DOA is unlikely, and Aqua SD cannot be held responsible for delays.

That's a bit of a difficulty for the buyer and seller in this instance.

The animals are dead and will not come back from this shipping
disaster.
