I have a chance to pick one of these up for around $100. It has a newer pump and seals. I was looking for some insight on this skimmer. What I do manage to find is mostly good, but there isn't much out there. System is a 240Gal with a 110Gal tub sump.

Sure, used a few ASM models (3, 4, and the mini). They're solid skimmers. Old sedra pumps tend to go on you, but easy enough to replace; if it's got the newer Sicce pump you're golden. $100 seems like a good deal. BTW, there were a whole bunch of mods done to these skimmers, none of which made much of an improvement.

I guess my only caveat would be that it may be a bit undersized if you run a high bio load system. My ASM3 ran on a 90 gallon tank.

Great skimmer. I did the gate valve and Tunze Hydrofoamer mods. As ca1ore said, mods don’t really make it better. But gate valve makes adjustments way easier and Tunze will out last the seeds pumps ten fold. For $100 you probably won’t find a better skimmer.

I loved my asm skimmers. I still have 2 g3's laying around just in case lol. The sedra pumps work but the impellers will always swell amd split on you no matter what you do. I would def do the gste valve mod to make tuning it easier and make it quieter. It will eliminate the pipe you slide up and down to adjust the level and you won't need to get your hand wet anymore lol.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. I was really debating on if I should jump on it or not. I figure if nothing else it's a cheap start for the system. Not sure how high my bio load will eventually be. Even if I outgrow it it's better than what I currently have which is nothing.
