Hey so I just bought a ASM g2 skimmer on Craigslist. The pump was working on and off so i ordered a new one from marine depot.
Just wanted to see if anyone is using the skimmer and had any reviews on it for me.
Thanks!

I've used one for the last 10 years. Very reliable as long as you remember to clean the venturi air intake nipple out frequently. This is especially important if you use a calcium reactor or are supplementing calcium, it plugs up pretty quick.
I keep a small drill bit with a wire nut glued to the top as a knob or handle to hang on to and that is the exact size next to the sump so it takes seconds to clean. It's second nature now, when I empty the cup or do anything under the stand, I pop the airline off and run the bit through a time or two.

I used a G3 for a long time. they are good skimmers. There have been advances in skimmers since they came out but these old guys do still work. What tank are you planning to use it on?

My only 2 issues with my G3 were - sound and the sedra pumps ran pretty warm. If you can add a gate valve modification to it and that helps with sound. The outlet on mine was 1-1/4" pipe

Thanks for the info so far! Right now I'm running a 29 gallon reef tank with a 20 gallon sump.
I'm in the process of putting together a 80 gallon rimless deep blue tank with a 40 gallon sump. The asm will go on the 80 gallon.
Once everything is up and running I'm going to move the 29 overt the the 80.

sounds like a good plan.

You may also want to make a air silenced for the skimmer too. a couple pieces of ro tubing and a pill bottle works well.
