Would like to find out where you guys place your aspen's if you have any. I just got a colony of about 200 polyps and was looking for placement. I fragged a piece and put em about a foot under my t5 and they seemed to have lost thier white blotches/ring. This is the colony , not the frag.

in higher k and light your white ring will get pink and morph into another goofy named polyp. I have only experimented with a 400w 20k XM lumenarc on an M59 and the polyps were less than 3 inches under the water. I have also seen them under 10k up high and they morphed into another goofy named polyp. I would just have fun with them and enjoy what ever they turn into. good luck with them.

That's cool if they morph into other goofy, named polyps. I was pretty much looking for height levels to really bring out the white. I like watching them change colors though, and your right, thats the fun part. I've got a ton of different green palys and was hoping to get these guys to keep that nice white. Check out these zoas, below. A totally different zoa, (thier membrane is black not tan), over the past 7 months they have just gotten more and more white. I've been searching for another polyp that would show some white.

Can you frag them? If so I would suggest putting a frag higher in your tank because it will produce more white on the oral disc. These types of PE also enjoy a medium flow so take that into consideration in your placement.

Good luck and give us some new pics.

Thanks. I've got a frag up high now in my main tank. I've got the colony in my zoa garden nano for now. Maybe I'll make a couple more frags and stick them in different areas. I'm just really really limited on real estate in my main tank and i actually just had to remove some things today as everything has really been growing well.

Pitcom that last picture was really nice! I would lean towards more teal/yellow under higher light. Frag them and give it a try! Awesome looking polyps, they are!

Actually funny thing about this guy is he has been all over my tank. I had him halfway up when i first got it and a crab knocked in on the sandbed. It turned the white and after several months i moved him all the way to the top of the tank. he's been there 2 months now and hasnt turned a single bit. A truely cool zoa. I've gotten some other black skinned zoas but they always seem to be regular stardust pe's instead of these neat ones.

These are by far the slowest growing zoa i have ever seen. I think in 7 months i have grown 1, maybe 2 polyps.

FWIW people can name their polyps or call them whatever it's their choice. I understand some people don't like it, and I have actually myself quit trying to keep up, but I still refer to most that I have by the name that they are most commonly referred to. :D

PS. I like the new name for the next polyp craze... GOOFY Palys! LOL! ;)

Hey geo,

Not yet. I got the frag in july sometime. They are staying up top for good. I just made a rock shelf recently and put alot of my zoa frags on it.

IMHO they will mostly cover in white and even a pinkish white if kept in higher lights. I have some that did the same thing and bit they are cool.

I had 2 small colonies of stardusts and the ones up top all thier splashes turned hot pink, defiantely cool.

COOL! Yea they def look awesome. Mine are that way right now. ;)

This one frag is up near the light and the ring turned pink and the white spots got really white. I have a mini colony of it on the sand bed and it's not as colorful. They call this morph Green Stardust PE

Can I put a large umbrella under the name "goofy polyp name"? I will start naming unnamed polyps and put them under this "rare" species list. I will have blue, green, pink, yellow and the ever present white-in this list. It will cover a broad spectrum of polyps and some parazoanthus but I will try and keep it in check and I will allow no SPS.

It is just a thought and I am off to zoaid to ensure no one take this great name or idea. Have a great day/night!

I should have a rather large collection by Feb.

I'll take some goofy polyps when there ready to frag! :D
