Hello Reefers,

I have been battling this cyan algae issue for months now. Need some guidance as I am losing the battle. This system and live stock was compounded for a 90 gal I bought running 3 years and my 40b running for around 6 months when moved into 90. The issue really started after I added the 40b as a frag tank to the system. Here are some of the details of my system then a explanation of what I have been trying to get rid of it.

-current
Total system around 170 gals (40g frag and 90 display)
trigger sys platinum 39 sump w/ fleece roller
alk 10.4
ca 450
mg 1320
ph btw 8.13-8.38
temp 76-76.8
salt 35ppt
Nitrate 0
Phos 0.01

When I introduced the frag tank around July my nitrate was 20 and phos .3. At that point I stopped feeding anything other than nori and dr basslets pellets. Added 55w UV, added reactors for goo carbon. I had been using Brightwell bioblocks for a while but around this same time they were deteriorating and causing a mess of small particles in sump so I removed them. Algae got really bad. Began using vibrant as directed and cleaning as often as I could. Also tried red slime remover (twice) with a 3 day lights out. Got a little better but not great. By nov I got the nitrate below 5 and pho 0.02 then down 0 and 0 in dec. I figured I did not have enough good bacteria to combat the algae so I dosed micro batter 7 for 2 weeks as directed along w continuing the vibrant dosing. I figured nitrate and phos at zero was not good as it wouldn't allow for the grow of good bacteria so I shut skimming, uv, goo, carbon. After a few weeks algae pretty much was gone. Retested nitrate and phos - both zero. So I started feeding fish and coral twice a week. Algae came back almost next after two feeding. Turned back on all skimming, uv, gfo, carbon. Continued vibrant and micro batter 7 (weekly). Scrub and clean algae, water changes, changed di filter and added second di in case it was coming from water source.

At this point I don't know what else to do. I am wondering I should add back the Brightwell bio blocks or what?
I appreciate any guidance you may be able to provide. Let me know if u need any more info.

Cheers

Pics too blue to confirm
Any under white lights?

Let me know how these work. My best guess is calothrix algae. Turned lights off and used a shop light. Thanks for your help

Ouch- this is no doubt Dino.
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

@vetteguy53081 Thanks for the reply. should I run uv, gfo, carbon or skimming during the night time. I know you shouldn't skim or uv for 4 hours after batter 7. Any suggestions moving forward so I don't end up here again?

Pull gfo and run skimmer and uv
Siphon as needed also and clean filters daily

Hello @vetteguy53081, so last night was 5th night dosing the peroxide. The tank has cleaned up A LOT but there is still some Dino left like on my frag rack and some rocks. Should I continue with the treatment? I am going to try to get what's left out w/ a water change but I don't think I can get it spotless. I just don't want this thing to come back. Thank you for your help!
