Asterina star fish and a tube thing?

So in my sump, I have had live rock, macro, crabs, etc. Tonight when I was looking in and cleaning out the red fuzz algae (thats a whole other issue, not the point of this post) I saw what looked like a rock, turns out to be an asterina star, attached to a long tube thing that branches off. What the heck is this? Is he making it? Is it some weird sea worm thing that the star is eating? The star was holding it up, it was attached to it's mouth from what I could see. This tube thing is growing in other parts of the fuge now, but usually don't have asterinas near them. Maybe he is eating a weird thing, maybe this is how they reproduce, idk. Any ideas??

In the pics he is no longer holding the thing, I had pushed him off to see what it was but he later returned to it

Could it be a sponge of some sort? white tangled bryozoan?

No idea what the name is but it is a sponge. I've got some in my sump too.

Good to know. The star seems to be eating it as he hasn't left it and where he goes it turns from white to clear?
