just noticed him a few minutes ago. this is a few days after a friend of mine gave me some green mushrooms, and i definitely saw some in his cube.

It sure is! :) they are generally not a problem, however they can reproduce extremely fast. So keep an eye on them. Some claim they've caught them munching on coral, I myself have never observed this.
 
We never had a issue with asterinas for years then one day we seen one munching on our palys and zoas. I say get rid of it. It's almost impossible to tell the good ones from the bad.
 
I’m of the opinion diversity helps maintain a healthy reef, if we toss everything we are unsure of then we should just suspend a goldfish cracker in a tank of air and call it a day.
Nobody is saying to toss everything. Everyone here is giving there opinions. We have had our collections of zoas and palys devastated by asterinas so in my opinion I say get rid of them. I agree that diversity is a good thing but I'd rather not have asterinas in the tank.
