Hard to get a better picture

Asterina starfish

Cute aren't they?

Unfortunately,

Kill it with fire!

They will compete with difficult to keep, beautiful, fromia and linkia stars.

They also have a taste for zoas. Possibly a taste for coraline algae.
There are multiple varieties and they all look alike. Supposedly some are harmless and some are a terror.

6 years ago we intentionally added a few white ones from the LFS and I thought they were really cute.

Have removed over 500 in the past several years and the majority of them are now grey or even black (supposedly the ones most likely to damage other creatures).
In my mind there is no difference. They all need to be removed.

Begun irradication 2 years ago.
1st month 200
2nd month 100
Rest of year 200.
Since then 100.

They are the gift that keeps on giving.

Took out 3 more this weekend.

chocolate chips

The sad thing is Chocolate chip stars are not reef safe. Harlequin shrimps with munch them up pretty quick, but one the harlequin shrimp is done is will starve. Harlequin's only eat star fish and that is were a Chocolate chip star comes in to feed the Harlequin shrimp. I you go the Harlequin shrimp route then keep a couple of chocolate chips in the sump and break a leg off to feed the Harlequin;)

I have had asterina stars for years sime my system has a wrasse that likes shrimp. The stars have not done and harm and seem to lessen with low nutrients.

Lol, then I'm doomed.

Nitrate usually around 20 to 30.

That might partly explain why I never completely get rid of them.

So might be OK to leave it in the tank?

Some are fine some are zoa eaters. Cant tell the difference until they start eating them. I had them for years no problems then the zoas started disappearing. I got 2 harlequins finished them off in about 2 months.
