Is this an asterina star? I’m cycling my new tank and spotted it on a rock. It’s going to be a reef only Pico with a few inverts.

It is. Most of us toss those pest stars in the trash as they can become a hassle and quickly multiply. Some folks like them, but they are not for my tank(s).

The shrimp will die once the starfish are gone. Your call. Its kinda like using berghia nudibranchs. Once their food supply is gone they are outta here.

Does it work? Or is 65$ better spent?
It worked great. Once he started eating them I had hundreds climb the glass to escape and I scooped tons out with the net. It got to a point where I could no longer see any stars and the shrimp was walking along the glass a lot. That told me he was getting low on food so I scooped him out and he went back to the LFS. I wouldn't have left him in there to starve.
