I have these in my tank. Probably hitchhiked on some corals, even though I dip. I see about three or four a day and pluck them out. I hate having things like this happen. I have a cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp. I know the harlequin shrimp supposedly is the answer, but I’m not sure if they are tankmates with the others. Any info would help. Or, is there anything else I can do. From what I’m reading, they will multiply and I do not want that.
Also, in the tank are
powder blue tang
Striped wrasse
Maroon clown
Yellow watchman goby

They will only multiply if a food source is available.
Mine increase & decrease & as far as I know they are no problem.

Some are known to eat coral, but the vast majority don’t, but still a risk to be aware of.
Harlequin would do fine with your shrimps, but since they need to be fed exclusively starfish, it can get rather expensive to feed one. Bumblebee shrimp eat stars, but will also eat other foods so there isn’t a worry about starving.

I don’t think they’re really a problem and I don’t understand the desire to have a sterile hitchhiker-free tank. They won’t get out of control if you don’t overfeed. In over twenty years in the hobby, I’ve yet to see actual proof that they eat corals, in my experience they are a beneficial part of the CuC (and I’ve had 4-5 different species). But it’s your tank, take them out if you want to, I wouldn’t get a harlequin shrimp, they’ll go through your population of Asterina (technically Aquilonastra) and then slowly starve to death.
