Does any one have an issue with the water in your reservoir TDS reading going up a tad after time?

I use a standard 20 high all glass tank for my reservoir. Goes in at 0 ppm and after sitting a week it reading 1 ppm.

Any thoughts?

Could be dust intrusion through gaps in lid, since the glass and silicone shouldn’t be leaching anything. They are both inert.

If this was a new barrel, I’d suspect leaching of whatever was in there before, or manufacturing residues.

Normal yes. The most likely suspect is salt.

RO/DI is like a sponge, it will soak up anything in the air.

Perfectly normal and fine to use.

Unless that ‘anything in the air’ is car exhaust or equipment /chemical fumes .

Location of ATO reservoir is important to know in this situation

As a reference, neither my RODI container nor my 20long ATO container have any sort of tds creep over the course of a week. Both have tight fitting lids

It wouldn’t be ‘normal’ for my system if I started getting TDS in either

YEah the top is not airtight. Right now I have a large piece of plastic ( big bag a piece of coral came in), but need to cut a piece of acrylic for it.

Unless your sump is in your garage with your car running, I don't think this is a big problem. Most ATO reservoirs are in our homes, if your getting toxic fumes and car exhaust in your home, you have bigger problems.

Well, yeah, that was my point. We can’t say ‘it’s nothing to worry about’ since we don’t know where his sump is located

Mine is in my basement. But I know if several builds where the sump is located in a garage behind the wall where the DT is located in the living room for example

My tank is in my office up stairs. I have a 30 gallon sump below the tank in a enclosed stand. The reservoir sitting just outside the stand.

Thanks. Likely dust etc from being in the sitting area

ok I'll try to seal it up a bit better. Thanks for your input!

No worries.

Since it’s sitting right there, I wouldn’t worry about sealing it better, if it doesn’t bother you too much. You kinda know what the ‘contaminant’ is, and your tank surface area up top is getting the same exposure. It’s not ‘stripping’ stuff out the air like RODI will but the amount of dust etc that gets collected up there is under appreciated. You just don’t notice because of the turbulent flow and the slimmer pulling it out
