At The Edge And About To Give In

All of them ate last night. I gave them Mysis with garlic gaurd. The royal gramma didn't seem to have any spots on it this morning, but I know that can be misleading. Also I started using Herbtana last night as well. The corals didn't seem to like it at first but after about 15 mins they all opened back up. I will update again this afternoon when I get home from class.
I swear that stuff is just lemon pinesol, But if it works what the heck!

So when I got home tonight the royal gramma had white spots on it again. Also the corals seem to be ok other than one of the xenia's is white on the edges but is open. I fedd them mysis again soaked in garlic gaurd. All fish ate well and seem to be fine minus the spots and flashing from the royal gramma.

your skimmer will start to overflow when using Herbtana; at least mine did. So if that happens, don't worry cuz it will go back to normal after a few days post treatment.

are any of the fish harrasing one another? i had a royal gramma that was a real pain and killed several fish. and this was in a 75gal tank. maybe there is some unseen aggresion goign on. also what are you using to measure salinity? hydrometer? or a refractometer? also i would go with a DkH test kit over a PH test kit

I haven't noticed any harassment among the fish. I watch them all the time and they seem to get along well together. I use a refractometer to measure salinity. I don't currently have a DkH test kit. The clown fish stay on a separate side of the tank from the royal gramma most of the day and the goby never really goes to the cave where the royal gramma hangs out at.

All of my fish came from aquatticritter in Nashville.

I hate to say it but I have to. That is part of your problem. Everyone over there is very nice and helpful to me when I am there so I am trying not to badmouth here. Constructive criticism is what I call this.

I know a lot of people in the club buy fish from there and they seem to do fine. I am not sure how they do it. I have not had one single fish from that store live past 3 months and that is even after a 6 week quarantine using copper power and then multiple treatments for flukes. I now buy my fish either "used" from people that have had them for some time and they are healthy or I buy them directly from Divers Den even though fish from them cost more and the shipping is so high. I have purchased two healthy fish from them in the last month. I also hear really good things about pacific island aquatics.

AC has a really bad problem with ich and generally unhealthy fish. Every time I am in there I either see a dead fish or fish that are on their last breaths. I don't know how they can sustain such losses and continue to offer marine fish for sale. A really good indicator of the quality of the health is the fact that you never see really high end fairy wrasses and fish of this nature there.

Once again I am not bad mouthing just stating what I see and the reason they never get my money when it comes to livestock.

It seems to me that the best store in town would buck up and install a proper quarantine system and yank the fish out of the store displays for 6-8 weeks, treat them properly and then keep a fresh supply of properly quarantined healthy specimens on hand. Maybe even do this on a small scale with a separate system with "higher end" fish and offer a guarantee on them. I would be willing to pay Divers Den bucks for these fish if they were healthy and had a guarantee. As it is now I will not buy livestock from and will continue to not buy from them until something changes at that store.

I am going to go get my flame suit on now because I know I am about to get roasted.

Well some of what u say is warrented I've seen the ich problems before u speak of and agree but I'm not sure any fish store can afford to qt all fish least not around here. Also I've bought many fish from there and all still live exept 1 cleaner wrasse.

How dare you say that about them, no i'm just kidding. No roasting going on here man, I will say for all of my experiences with them they have been nothing but helpful. I have bought all of my fish from them and they are all very healthy. Also, all of my coral I have bought there has been healthy. Maybe you just had some bad experiences with them.

Maybe. Once again I was not bashing in any way shape or form. Just stating my experience and the reasons I avoid their livestock. I don't see how quarantine could cost very much (except for the initial setup) and they could make that up by charging a little more for said fish. This hobby can be very expensive. The last place I want to cheap out is on the critters I am trying to keep.

All that said I would love to be able to head to a LFS and pick up some livestock and be sure that they are healthy, eating, and happy prior to arriving at my tank.

Oh and the whole point of my posts is that maybe they need to set up a proper quarantine and try a different source for their livestock.

You know, you can purchase the fish and not take it home. Let's say it arrives on Tuesday, you see it Wednesday. It has just been through a long flight from CA, and who knows from where a few days before that. So give it a break, let it chill at the store for a week. Then go in, and ask to see it eat. If it eats, and looks okay, then take it home, and QT it, or throw it in your tank.

These fish go through a lot just to arrive at the LFS, and the fact any of them acclimate to all the changes is a miracle in the first place, if you ask me.

Just wanted to give an update on my ich issue. The royal gramma is looking better. No visible spots for 3 days now. He is eating mysis and pellets fine. I am on day 5 of the Herbtana treatment. It seems to have helped but, not sure if it was the Herbtana or the garlic in the food.
That is good advice Chris. I never thought of leaving the fish at the store for a week or so to see how it does there. Also the store that I was trying to think of in Atlanta is Premier Aquatics in Marietta. I am going to call the Critter tomorrow and see if they can order some of the Dr. G's anti-parasitic food. Currently only shops in GA and FL stock it. I have read a ton of reviews online and it seems to work as good as the anti-bacterial food I have.
Has anyone on here tried Dr.G's medicated food? Did it work for you? Again, Thanks for all the responses and advice.

I recomend a skunk cleaner shrimp and neon goby for all tanks no matter the fish. You would be suprised how often all my fish use them including chromis and melanurus wrasse. Its not a cure but I think of them more like going to doctors for checkups and shots. They go a long way in keeping your fish healthy imo and I wont have fish without them now

Just wanted to post another update. I am on day 9 of the Herbtana 10 day treatment. So far there haven't been any spots on the royal gramma since day 3 (7 days without any spots). All the corals are doing good, althought they aren't opening as much as normal. All fish are eating well. I plan on purchasing some Dr. G's Anti-parasitic food straight from them. If anyone wants to buy some with me that will help with the shipping cost let me know.
