I purchased my gold stripe Maroon from ORA 16 months ago. She was about an inch long when I got her. She has turned fully gold at this point and definitely has an attitude, but still doesn't bother any of my other fish.

At this age is it pretty safe to say things will probably be ok or is she still too young?

New additions might pose an issue. Tank size, hiding spots will play a role as well. As they mature they get aggressive. Within one year from a tiny baby ours would jump out of the tank at me, no joke!

I had one that was about 4 inches long. It drew blood when it bit me. I had a similar experience as DSC reefer, it chased my arm around the tank and would jump out of the water after me.

I had some new additions about 2 months ago and she didn't seem to care. I have only had her nip me once, and just now I actually had my hand in her anemone and she didn't get aggressive with me.

I have always heard they get aggressive as they mature, I'm just wondering at what age are they considered "fully" mature. I hope I am just one of the lucky ones with a fairly mild mannered maroon :)

Not sure on the exact age but all the maroons that we've had got nasty past the one year mark. I will say the ones that were hosted by an anemone were far meaner than the ones that were not hosted.

Well mine is at least a year and a half old at this point so let's just hope I got lucky ;)

Well, each will have variations in personality.
There also may be different stages or things that come into play, having an anemone host can make them territorial of that area, spawning may bring more aggressive nature.

I also notice that many tank bred clowns seem more passive, more used to human hands.

All my maroons seemed to be more aggressive towards me than they were to fish.

I ended up having to tear down my smaller frag tank while I get my low boy up and running. I had to move my juvi ocellaris clowns to my dt in the meantime. I had them in a social acclimation box, but after 5 days with zero signs of aggression from the maroon, I decided to release them to see what would happen. This was right after releasing them.

That was 9 days ago and that was the most interaction between the clowns. Still no aggression of any kind.

I work out of my house and the tank is in my office so I can keep a pretty close eye on the tank. If anything changes I'll put them back in the acclimation box.

So do you think I have a super chill maroon, or is this just a disaster waiting to happen? FWIW the ocellaris will only be in the tank another couple of weeks tops until they get moved to the low boy.

I was able to get the low boy up and running earlier than expected and the clowns have been relocated. Never did see any aggression between the clowns though. I don't doubt it would have come in time, but from everything I observed, it would have been the ocellaris pair bullying the maroon
