Guys how high off the water can I mount this fixture, while still being able to grow anything on the sand (mainly just acclimating - sps)? The tank is a standard 180 (72x24x24)

I would like to hang it Between 16-18 inches off the water

I believe that par needs to be around 300 for SPS (is this correct)

you should be good there, but while anything might grow on the sand some of your light lovers like millis will still prefer to be higher up.
Different sps have different par sweet spots but 300 is a good thing to shoot for if you have a par meter.

Par meters are great but the corals will let you know.
Just watch them and see, make sure tho if u have strong lighting ur having good flow at the same time.

I have an 8bulb t5 light over my 90 and its only 4 inches off the water.( that's is tall as the legs go that came with the light)
