Ati dimmable vs ati power module

I am looking for the 48" for my 90g and wondering what other people have experienced with these lights. Pros and cons. I've read the relay goes a lot on the dimmable but wondering if the new ones got fixed.

Hello Scabbedwings! We actually have very very few problems with our modern or current relays (read last 3-4yrs worth). We sell very few these days. I personally have an 8x54 LED Powermodule on my tank, but it is certainly overkill for a 90g. The LEDs are a force to be reckoned with, the 4x54 LED Powermodule would be more than enough for you, or any of the 54w Dimmable Sunpowers (depending on your coral choice, but the 6 bulb is probably best). If you still have a concern about relays, check and see how they are described or what they look like in the past. The units that people had issues with years ago are black boxes. The current relays are more like a plastic coated quarter (coin). Let me know if you have any specific questions I can address!

I have a 48" powermodule and love it. Recently had an issue w/ a ballast but the customer service was great at ATI. I also purchased a sunpower (24") for my frag tank. I prefer the powermodule. I don't dim my bulbs but I do utilize the LED's as my ramp up/down. Corals love the powermodule. Can't go wrong with either one.

I did read a lot and that is why I was asking on this forum if there were still issues with the dimmable ones. The relays were bad. What is the life of the bulbs on the dimmable vs the regular sun power? Is it true the dimmable ones burn out quicker?

Relays are not an issue, unless you are buying a used very old unit, you need not worry about it.

Bulbs life span is NOT different when dimming, so long as you you properly burn in your bulbs when they are brand new. This "belief" stems from people dimming them right out of the box which will ruin the bulbs. The phosphors need time to distribute across the tube and "bake on" of sorts. Failure to operate them at 100% for 50 hours minimum will indeed crush the lifespan. Check out the Proper Care of a T5 thread on our forum for details.
