I'm currently running 8x39w Sunpower over my tank (36x20x20). This sucker is awesome and it very bright, but honestly its more than needed. It covers literally the entire footprint of my tank and I have to hang it about a 12" off the tank to keep from burning everything (and then it lights up the whole room). I have recently come across a good deal on a 4x24w LED Powermodule. Would this be sufficient? I have done lots of searching, and I see plenty of people having good success with 6 inches on either side uncovered, but I'm not sure if the 1 LED cluster would provide much punch. I'm thinking about just trying it, and if its not enough I can just resell it.

I actually prefer to have the 6" per side, especially with T5 which has such good spread.
And the higher you hang it, the better the spread.
That said, it will still light up the whole room.
You can dim it though.
Too bad you didn't need the 36" cause mine is for sale! lol

My 8x54 covers my entire tank. I use egg crate and a few layers of window screen to acclimate corals in the ends. Simply remove one layer every week. In my experience so far I've learned that I can't over light my SPS if properly acclimated. Once acclimated slowly they all seem to love being blasted. I'm running 5 B+, 2 C+, 1 actinic and a reef bright xho strip to supplement dawn and dusk.
