Starting a new 72x30x24 sps reef..
Need light suggestions ...
ATI pm 10x80 or 3x250 MH with vhos

I would say the halides w/ vhos. Do a quick search and you'll find hundreds of defferent answers online. You should see tanks running both options in person and make your own decision then.

If you are willing to do MH, I'd say 400w halides with VHO. The current featured tank on our local reef forum has this setup and his tank is absolutely gorgeous. Burns a metric ton of electricity, but gorgeous.

Sps only? Liar!! Better go t5 cause the bottom is gonna be filled with sexy pieces since u want new pieces everyday lol

Hahahaha, Mike is probably right. But if it is actually going to be a SPS dominent tank (yeah right), I would go with 3 - 400w MH with VHO supplement (2 - Super Actinic and 2 - 454nm). That's what I have on my 72x24x24, and the SPS love it.

This is exactly what I was thinking with my recommendation.

But since sexy busted ya, not sure it would be best unless you set lots of overhangs and make cozy shaded spots for your other corals.

Ha ha, the Big Sexy is watcin you!

Hahhaha u guys have no idea !! He got the coral bug really bad man!! I truely think he cannot live without adding new corals to
His tank weekly.. He may even pick coral over food in and emergency. Like if there was a fire in his house he would run and grab all his best corals lol

:-P

My vote is either with all T5's or metal hallide with T5 or VHO supplement.

considering the cost of running the MHs and the heat created by them I would go either all T5 or T5 LED combo....

why not go with both t5's and mh? you get the best of both worlds.

Vho are like giant t5's. Since he only needs the actinic/blue supplement, t12 vho work best with halide. They use a remote ballast and have reflectors inside the bulbs to save space.

I heard vho's have a shorter life span than t5's, not sure if thats true but i have seen crazy colors with the mh and vho mix. I'm just partial to ati blue plus bulbs and lots of fixtures have a mh/4 t5 bulb combo mix

I would say the power module since it is more customizable for colors then the Halides. With 10 T5s you will have plenty of light and it will be "pretty" light and it will function for what you want.

Leaning more towards the 3x400mH..
Now What should I use to supplement halides ...VHS or t5s..
Is so how many watts and what kind

Definitely go with the 3x400w MH and VHO. I believe there are 72" 1xx watt VHO bulbs.

You could even supplement with actinic LEDs.

I would go all t5 but thats just because I just switched from halide : ) and love it! but if your going with halide and VHO, id do one true actinic vho and one or two reefbrite strips. That would give you some awesome pop.
