Good evening

I was wondering if anyone had any insite on this issue. Im looking to run t5 over a 120 gallon 48x24 mixed reef SPS heavy. From what I've read if I run individual reflectors and HEP ballasts I should get the same PAR and spread as the ATI. The only reason I would go retrofit over ATI is because I built the canopy and the sleek ATI fixture would be hidden away.

8 x ATI Replacement 54w Reflector For Powermodule - $152.00
4 x ATI HEP 2x54W ballasts - $100.00
OR
4 x Advanced Centium 2x54W - $170.00
Lampholders(sockets) -$50.00
Wiring - $50.00

Total : $352 - $422 vs $616.00

If anybody has anything to add Positive or negative on one option or the other please let me know.

It's a fine idea.

Id just consider heat more than anything honestly. Both for the sake of the tubes and the tank.

8 tubes will be a lot of heat.
So one question is , do you need that much light?

I could also add fans to the retro fit. Watching the new BRS video It seems I could be safe with a 6 bulb configuration.

Yup
You would have to have fans for sure. The should blow in btw , like an ati fixture does.

Fwiw, an ati six tube is about 800 to 1000 par at 12in.
Somthing to consider with the size of the canopy and the par you want. I had a 4 tube and a weak led strip on my 48x 24 in deep tank. The tubes were 10 in above the water.
It was more than I needed.
