ATI T5 fan help

I have a ATI T5 fixture. The fans will not run unless I unplug the fixture and plug it back in. The fans will run for about 30 seconds and just turn off. Any advice?

That sounds normal. I don't know the vintage of your fixture, but most of the newer last 5 years they only run when needed they are controlled by a thermal switch.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's normal for my fixture. The fixture was getting so hot it was dimming the lights.

I believe the standard Sunpower fans run all the time. Sometimes the plug to the fan power supply may not be sitting correctly or possibly you have a bad power supply. These are issues with old used units.

I'd check with ATI in their forum here on R2R to confirm as I have only dealt with used Sunpowers, I don't know if the new versions are the same.

The dimmable versions may be the units that the fans aren't on all the time.

Thanks Big E! This is a dimmable unit and it is 1 year old. I sent them a message and hope to hear back tomorrow when their support opens.

I know this sounds stupid, but usually the number one cause of fan failure is excessive dust buildup. Not saying this is what's going on but 80% that's what it is. Just got to say it to run down the list.

Do you have a separate power supply for the fans? Wall wart? Might be a issue there.

Thanks I don't believe it to be a dust issue. They have a little dust but not a bunch, plus it's 3 fans and I don't think they would all quit the same exact time.

I am not sure I understand. The fixture just has one cord the runs everything.

My ATI fixture has a single cord coming out of the light, but goes to a box that has 2 cords coming out of it. One is for 2 bulb, the other is for 4 bulbs, and a plug-in for a power supply for the fans. It's just a wall wart with multiple voltages. They do go bad.

Maybe they changed it. My fixture just has 1 cord that just plugs right into the wall.

Yeah, this box is pretty bulky and very inconvenient.
The power supply they use for this model is a weak point in the fixture.
But IMO if you are experiencing fan issues, I would try and look for the power supply to them.
There has to be some sort of control. I would think they still use a low voltage fan.

The Standard Sunpower has 3 cords...........it's plug and play. I agree with mfinn that's the weakest point of the fixture.

Dimmable is all built into one because it has that small programmable screen to set the lights up for how you like them.
